"There is, on the whole, nothing on earth intended for innocent people so horrible as a school."

The Enrichment Class Committee will be taking applications for Teachers for the Fall 2010 Semester through May 15. If you or someone you know would like to apply to teach during our Fall Semester, please fill out an application and return it through email (RTF format works best for downloading here) or through the post office to Kelly Lacina, 7275 SE Greenard Rd., St. Joseph, MO 64507. (FREE Adobe Acrobat Reader required to view these files)
We have some really great, new ideas for classes for next semester and we, of course, have our tried and true classes in the returned application envelope, already. If you or someone you know would like to share your professional expertise, a hobby, or other interests with our children, please apply.
If you have any questions, call Kelly Lacina after Monday, April 19, at 816-253-9921. Or, you may call Marita Smith at 816-233-0004 or, Verla Hart 816-449-3400. We will be working on the schedule soon and would like applications in as soon as possible.
If you are new to the area, you may be wondering what Enrichment Classes are. Well, here is a note about Enrichment Classes from the organizers of the classes:
Saint Joseph Home School Enrichment Classes are a long-standing tradition in Northwest Missouri. We welcome all home schooling families in joining us for a variety of classes in a Christian environment. Families travel from far and wide for an afternoon of learning, camaraderie, and fun experiences. Different classes are offered each semester with some classes being offered continually like High School Band and Choir.
Children of all ages, pre K through 12th grade, enjoy classes like Arts and Crafts, Algebra, Pocket History, Theater, Chess, Physics, Young Children's Literature and Science, different cooking classes, Physical Education, and Dance, just to name a few. Some of our classes provide optional outside experiences; for example, the Chess Team participates in area, state and national tournaments. Some students register for only one class and some take several. This decision is entirely up to the individual family.
Classes are held on Tuesday afternoons usually at a local church. Teachers choose to teach either eight or twelve week classes depending on their curriculum. We have a set fee for each semester and teachers may also add a supply fee, if necessary. Most often our teachers are parents from our group, although sometimes our teachers are hand-selected members from our community.
Class Descriptions and registration information are posted on this website and sent out on the Yahoo email loop at sjhssg@googlegroups.com. Many of our families share the registration information with other home school groups in the area. Registration is held several weeks before the semester begins. Parents will turn in a Church Release Form, purchase and fill out their child's name badge, have their child's names added to the Enrichment Class master registration list, and then they enroll with and pay each teacher individually.
During classes parents are asked to remain on site or assign a temporary guardian who will remain on site. Many students and parents have formed life-long friendships during classes. Some parents volunteer to help in classrooms, join in Bible study groups, knit, or share in discussion with like minded others while their children attend classes.
We welcome you to join us for an afternoon of education, wonderful experiences and friendship!
If you have any questions, please contact one of the Enrichment Class organizers:
Name Badges:
Each student attending Enrichment Classes is required to wear an ID badge. Teachers will not admit a student in their class without one. Badges are picked up prior to class by the parent or guardian, and are dropped off by the parent/guardian upon leaving.
ID badges have the student's name written on the outside of a folded piece of paper, which is placed inside a plastic holder worn by the student while attending classes. On the inside, the following information is filled out by the parent in case of emergency: student's name, parent's name and phone number, alternate contact name and number. Parents may also choose to enclose within the name badge any medical information for use in emergencies (such as allergies to medicine or food, asthma, diabetes, seizures, heart conditions, etc.)
Name badges will be purchased for $1 and filled out during Registration. Name badges can be used from one semester to the next as long as they are in good shape. Each semester parents will be required to review the contact and medical information contained within the name badge. If a badge is lost during the semester, it will be replaced at a cost of $5.
Please direct all questions regarding Enrichment Class policy to one of the three ladies listed above.
